A competition to name a £7.7m state-of-the-art very sheltered housing and care complex in Wolverhampton is being launched by Accord.

The Housing Association, which has offices in West Bromwich and Darlaston, is asking the people of Low Hill to come up with a name for the Showell Park development in Othello Road.

The winning suggestion will be officially launched as the name of the scheme in spring 2009.

The winner will be invited to attend a completion event and will receive a beautiful framed picture of the development with their winning scheme name included.

The Accord very sheltered housing scheme, delivered by Matrix Housing Partnership, will feature private living space as well as communal areas such as a restaurant, computer suite, gym and social club facilities.

It has also been designed to include green features which reduce energy consumption, meeting Accords goal to be the greenest housing association in the country.

Mark Pearce, Assistant Director of Care and Support at Accord, said: “We are offering local residents the chance to name one of our flagship developments in the heart of Wolverhampton.

“We welcome entries from all members of the Low Hill community and hope people will come up with names that reflect the local area and the rich history of the city.

“We are very excited about this flagship development and we can’t wait to see some of the suggestions people come up with for its’ name.”

The £7.7M purpose built scheme will provide independent living for the over 55s with 64 apartments.

The project is due to be completed by December next year and is being built by Wates Living Space for Accord Housing Association.

Suggestions for the name of the Showell Park development should be posted to:

Mark Pearce, Assistant Director of Care and Support, Accord Housing Association, 178 Birmingham Road, West Bromwich, B70 6QG.

Or emailed to markp@accordha.org.uk

Entrants should include their name, address, contact details and no more than 50 words about why they have chosen their suggested name.

Closing date for the competition is Monday 16th February 2009.
