Representatives from nine different faith groups in Brent met up on Wednesday to discuss burning issues such as rough sleeping and homelessness.

Concerned leaders of diverse religious groups that make up the Brent Multi Faith Forum (BMFF) wanted to hear how they could work together - in support of the council - to help the borough's rough sleepers.

They heard about all the work Brent Council is doing to help homeless people this winter such as providing hostel services, a winter shelter and offering hot food and other facilities at a day centre in Cricklewood.

But they wanted to know what they could do and to see if it was possible to be trained on how to look after homeless people who approach them.

Assistant Director of Housing, Perry Singh, said: "We were pleased to be invited to attend the forum by the faith leaders to discuss the problems we face around homelessness and the steps we are taking to address them.

"We will be looking into what training we can offer members of the forum and also circulating details of all the council housing services we offer."

Cllr James Allie, Lead Member for Housing and Customer Services, said: "Religious groups are often keen to play a role and help tackle homelessness. In addition to the hostels and day centres we provide, Brent Council is working with local churches to set up a cold weather shelter this winter.

"We are grateful for all the support they offer the Brent community and are happy to work with them on different initiatives."
BMFF also discussed emergency planning, the flu plan and recycling at the meeting in Wembley.

BMFF officer, Jennie Doble, said: "We are pleased to be working in partnership with Brent Council on a whole range of issues."
