Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) honoured almost 130 employees at an awards ceremony this week at its headquarters in Castleford.

Tenants and residents are already benefiting from improved front line services as employees from across the district celebrated achieving their qualifications. The qualifications include: degrees, National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Higher National Certificates and the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

Over 50 of the awards went to WDH’s managers who achieved ILM Level 4 in Leadership and Management, the largest single group of employees in the UK to undertake the updated qualification.

ILM qualifications are founded on the principle that managers and leaders hold the key to a productive workforce that delivers organisational and economic success by improving individual and team performances.

Kevin Dodd, Chief Executive of WDH, hosted the awards and explained, “We are committed to continuously improving the services that we offer to our tenants, especially in these difficult times it is more important than ever that we encourage and develop our employees as it is pivotal to our continued success.

This year, we have focused on ensuring our management team has the skills and expertise to drive the organisation into the future by giving them the latest leadership and management tools available.

The employees involved have shown a great deal of dedication and commitment to their training and the qualifications they’ve received are the rewards they deserve.”

WDH’s commitment to training and development doesn't stop there, almost a hundred further employees are currently undertaking trade and office based apprenticeships or formal qualifications including customer service, housing and business administration.
