Regional housing provider AmicusHorizon is sending out energy efficient light bulbs to its residents this week, to reduce carbon emissions across its housing stock, whilst saving them money.
AmicusHorizon has linked up with the Housing Corporation, EDF Energy and energy efficiency advisors eaga, to distribute the light bulbs, donated by EDF Energy. Its housing associations across south-east England are issuing them to homes that might be vulnerable to fuel poverty.
Each household will receive four light bulbs with a lifespan ten times longer than regular bulbs. Together, the bulbs use 80 per cent less electricity than standard bulbs and could save a household £240 in energy costs.
In total, the scheme aims to save 1.14 million tonnes of CO2 over a ten year period, which would fill more than 230,000 Olympic-size swimming pools.
AmicusHorizon Group, which owns and manages 28,000 homes across south-east England, is one of the first housing associations to take part in the scheme.
Speaking about the partnership, Janey Bray, researcher and project manager for environment and sustainability at AmicusHorizon, said: “Making our homes more energy efficient and supporting vulnerable people in doing this is one of our key priorities.
“We are delighted to be joining up with The Housing Corporation, EDF Energy and eager to help our residents reduce their energy needs.
“At a time of rising energy prices, we firmly believe this will help our households save money while meeting our own commitments of making our housing more environmentally
sustainable.”
