On Saturday 18 October, over 100 Moat residents gathered at the Thistle Hotel in Brands Hatch, Kent for the Moat Residents Make a Difference Conference. The conference was organised by residents for residents. Residents put their questions to a panel of Moat staff, participated in various workshops and most importantly, had the opportunity to build on existing relationships with Moat staff and create new ones with residents from other communities.
There were workshops on offer about resident involvement, anti-social behaviour, drugs awareness and working together with Moat to ensure effective communication. Attendees were also able to hear from fellow residents who have made a difference within their communities.
Moat resident, Margaret Roome, says: Ive had a great day. I have learnt from what other Moat residents had to say and have learnt more about Moat in general. Everything that I have heard today can be used for the benefit of all age groups and all residents.
Stephanie Smith is a Moat resident living in Belvedere and says: Thanks to one of the workshops I learnt loads more about Moat residents who have made a difference within their communities. I think its good that younger people are getting involved and using their interests to help create nicer places to live. I want to take away what I have learnt and use it within my own neighbourhood.
Gerri Scott is Moats executive director: housing and customer services and says: The Moat Make a Difference Conference gives Moat staff and residents the opportunity to get to know one another better. Moat as an organisation believes in being more than just a voice on the phone. The question and answer sessions in particular provided honest feedback and an opportunity to further improve Moats service offer.
