Salford council homes transferred to City West Housing
It is a new beginning for tenants in west Salford this week as a new Registered Social Landlord, City West Housing Trust, takes over ownership of nearly 15,000 council homes.
The move voted for by tenants, and supported by Salford City Council, secures a £900 million investment programme for the next 30 years that will bring improvements to homes, estates and
services.
Work will begin immediately with a programme of new heating systems, replacement doors and windows and a range of other home improvements. Over £200 million will be spent on the area in the
next five years.
Tim Doyle, Chief Executive for City West Housing, said: "Our investment is about more than bricks and mortar. We will be working in partnership with local communities and investing in projects
designed to address local issues such as dealing with anti-social behaviour and improving facilities on estates."
The transfer is a key part of Salford City Council's 'Decent Homes Investment Strategy' which aims to ensure there is a long term and robust solution in delivering homes that meet new Government
standards in all parts of the city.
Added Councillor Peter Connor, Salford City Council's lead member for housing: "This transfer of homes to City West Housing Trust results from the biggest consultation exercise Salford City Council
has ever undertaken.
"A mixed approach to housing provision through the creation of City West Housing Trust, Salix Homes in Central Salford and PFI funding for homes in Pendleton will secure the investment to meet
tenants priorities and ensure that they all live in homes and neighbourhoods of a standard they deserve and should expect.
"We are looking forward to working with City West Housing Trust, who will also be a key partner in helping us drive forward the regeneration of the west of the city, complementing that already well
underway in Central Salford."
