Eastlands Homes has been named an animal-friendly housing association by the RSPCA.

The east Manchester organisation achieved a Bronze Footprint for Housing as part of a pioneering new awards scheme for local authorities and housing providers that have gone above and beyond the call of duty in protecting animal welfare.

“Pets are very important to many of our customers,” said Sheila Doran, Chief Executive at Eastlands Homes. “We are happy to support those customers who want to keep pets, providing they are cared for responsibly and are not allowed to cause a nuisance to other people.

“We’re delighted to have achieved the bronze footprint and we’ll be looking at what we need to do to meet the silver and gold standards in future years.”

Forty-nine local authorities and housing providers from across England and Wales were rewarded with footprint awards in the RSPCA’s Community Animal Welfare Footprints scheme, launched earlier this year.

Sophie Corless, an RSPCA spokesperson said: “The aim of the Community Animal Welfare Footprints is to recognise and celebrate those that have made an extra effort and gone beyond their basic service requirements to ensure higher welfare standards in some of the services they provide.

“This has been an opportunity to gather information of good practice from England and Wales and allow public service providers to talk up the work they do. I hope by promoting this good practice it can help others find solutions to the problems they have encountered.”

Eastlands Homes has received a certificate recognising their achievement, and has been invited to send two representatives to the RSPCA’s Autumn Reception at the House of Lords in November.
