Green-fingered Wisbech residents have won the top prize in the container category of a gardening competition organised by housing association Accent Nene.
Mrs Daphne Bryant and her husband Tony of Victoria Court in Wisbech scooped the first prize for the best container. It is the third year in a row that Mrs Bryant has been awarded the top prize.
The competition was open to more than 3,000 tenants of Accent Nene across the east of England.
In July, judges from Accent Nene visited the gardens of everyone who had entered the competitions. They then called back on short-listed entrants in August.
Wendy Dyer an Accent Nene resident herself and a member of the Accent Nene board led the judging, along with fellow board member Roger Davis and assistant resident involvement officer Ruth Mingay.
Wendy Dyer said: It is great to announce that Mrs Bryant has won this section for the third year running. With so many entries this was a difficult category to judge but congratulations go to Mrs Bryant, who takes the first prize with one of her new containers.
Her display of containers is so beautiful that it makes you smile when see it and the perfume from the flowers is better than anything you could buy in a shop. Victoria Court is totally transformed by this display and must bring joy to anyone who lives there.
Because she has such a good eye for mixing plants and colours we are inviting her to join the judging panel next year.
Accent Nene managing director Andrew Williams welcomed the winners to an award ceremony where they were presented with certificates and gift vouchers.
He said: This is the third year that we have organised a garden competition for residents and we were delighted with the number of entrants and the excellent standards of the gardens.
All of our entrants put a great deal of time and effort into caring for their gardens. They work hard throughout the year keeping them looking fantastic and they should be proud of their achievements.
Following the success of this years competition Accent Nene plans to continue it as an annual event.
