TODAY IN HOUSING

Longhurst Homes together with partner organisations took out their community vehicle this week, giving local tenants from around Boston help and advice on managing their finances.

Longhurst Homes have a dedicated income team to ensure tenants are able to talk to specialist advisors who can for example, check that the tenants are receiving all the benefits they are entitled to as well as advice on ways to be smart with their money.

Alongside Longhurst Homes, the Boston branch of Citizens Advice were also on hand to provide advice and support to tenants on issues including; advice on how to save money, basic knowledge of benefits, what benefits tenants might be entitled to, tenancy support, how to open a basic bank account and encouraging tenants to set up direct debit accounts allowing them to reduce and manage their utility bills.

Paula Caunt, Senior Income Officer commented, Events like these are a great way of actually talking to customers face to face and giving helpful, personalised advice. Some people prefer to talk face to face rather than over the phone particularly about sensitive issues like coping with the credit crunch. The day has been a great success and we have been able to help some of our customers who have been missing out on benefits which they are entitled to.
