Staff from social landlord Contour Homes in Handforth have teamed up with their Police colleagues to support residents who have experienced visits from bogus callers in the area.
Rachel Gee Contour Homes Area Manager said: In the Spath Lane area some elderly people have been the target of bogus callers and we want to stamp this out quickly.
Police Officers and Contour Homes staff are providing dedicated visits this week, knocking on doors and explaining to householders, particularly the elderly, about being safe and procedures to follow should a stranger approach your home.
Contour Homes staff and the Police will have visible identification and will also be providing leaflets about home security and safety.
We are determined to stamp out this crime before it escalates, said Rachel. This door to door initiative and the support of the Spath Lane residents association will make the community more vigilant.
Contour Homes enjoys a particularly close relationship with local Police Officers thanks to a pioneering initiative which allows Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers to have a base at the Contour Homes office at The Paddock in Handforth. This not only puts other services in easy reach of the community but also sees two partner organizations working closer together to tackle issues like this.
This is a prime example of how working in close physical proximity allows us to share information and take action quickly and efficiently, said Rachel. There is no bureaucracy just professionals
talking together in the same office and deciding on a joint and swift approach.
