Bank ignores calls to cut interest rates
Selwood Housing has launched a new debt advice service for tenants with the message ‘money matters and debt can be managed with the right help.’
The new money matters service provides a range of advice focusing on debt management andassistance with forms, liaising with creditors and benefit calculations to establish entitlement to all sorts
of social security benefits.
Mary Riley, the new money matters adviser explained: ‘We have developed this service to help and encourage people to deal with their debts and financial problems before they get out of
control.
"People find themselves in financial difficulty for all sorts reasons. The increase in food and fuel bills has affected everyone and if you are on a low income it can be a real problem.
“Doorstep money lenders are not a fair and affordable way to borrow money. We recommend the Credit Union for loans and savings, an organisation that provides straightforward, affordable
financial services to a growing number of people.”
Chair of Selwood Housing John Alford added: “We have launched this money matters services as a result of feedback from our tenants and already we have people clamouring for
appointments.
"It’s all too easy for people to fall into debt and we want to help our tenants to work it out and stay afloat – not just to pay their rent but be able to pay their other bills as
well.”
The service is run on an appointment system and tenants can either refer themselves or have a payment advisor or their neighbourhood manager refer them on their behalf.
