The Mayor of Salford declared the gardens of residents living at New Broughton to be ‘bloomin’ marvellous’ when she judged a Broughton in Bloom competition recently, organised by housing association Contour Homes.

The Mayor presented a cup to Lachlan Dutton, aged eight, and Alicia Brownbill, nine, who had developed their own garden for the Broughton community.

“I have been very impressed with all the gardens,” said the Major, Cllr Margaret Morris. “It’s lovely to see so much planting and clever design particularly as residents have only been living in their homes for a year.  I would definitely like to see this area enter Britain in Bloom next year.”

Mrs Pat Burke of Duke Street won the overall ‘champion of champions’ cup along with £250 of high street vouchers.
