The Mayor of Salford declared the gardens of residents living at New Broughton to be bloomin marvellous when she recently judged a Broughton in Bloom competition organised by social landlord Contour Homes.
Mrs Pat Burke of Duke Street won the overall champion of champions cup along with £250 of high street vouchers.
The Major, Cllr Margaret Morris, along with Contour Housing Groups John Burt selected the overall winner from nine finalists. I have been very impressed with all the gardens, she said. Its lovely to see so much planting and clever design particularly as residents have only been living in their homes for a year. I would definitely like to see this area enter Britain in Bloom next year because it all looks lovely.
Pat Burke was delighted and surprised to win: I love gardening and it gives me real pleasure to be able to create my own little oasis, she said. Im really pleased the Mayor and the rest of the judging panel enjoyed it too.
The Mayor also presented a cup to children living on the development who had developed their own garden for the community in the courtyard behind the new properties.
