Registered social landlord Peak Valley Housing Association has recently started building new bungalows for the over 55 age group.
Managing Director Phil Corris said: These bungalows represent phase 2 of our new build programme. Last year we built 14 two bedroom bungalows across three separate sites specifically for this age group and it is fair to say that our waiting list was inundated with people looking for this type of accommodation.
Peak Valley has instructed Rowlinson Construction to start work on two more sites in Hattersley and develop eight properties at Cheriton Close and a further five properties on Ashburton Close. This £1.5 million project is one part of Peak Valleys multi million pound investment programme for the area.
There is clearly a huge need for modern well built accommodation for the over 55s and we already have a considerable waiting list for this next phase which will be completed in the autumn of 09, said Phil Corris.
The bungalows offer contemporary rented accommodation which is connected to a warden call system. These architect designed properties provide spacious rooms which include a living room, fully fitted kitchen, two bedrooms and a family bathroom. The homes are being built using modern methods of construction which will make them very energy efficient for the end user.
Phil Corris adds: The exceptionally high demand for these bungalows demonstrates a clear need for this type of housing and Peak Valley is in early discussions with the council about ways to
increase the provision of elderly persons housing in Hattersley in the future.
