TODAY IN HOUSING

Three green fingered residents from the North West have won prizes in this years local gardening competition organised by housing association Contour Homes.

Ann Turner from Handforth won best hanging basket, Carol Brocklehurst of Macclesfield won best balcony and Fiona Halford from Knutsford won best rear garden.

Fiona won the prize after her husband entered her for the competition in July. She said: The first thing I knew about the competition was when I received a letter saying that the judges would be round to look at my garden in the next few days. I couldnt believe it!

Fiona, 39 years old, works at the local day services for people with learning disabilities and gardens as a hobby. Im a keen gardener and use lots of bedding plants and pots in the garden and I always like lots of colour so I think that must have been what the judges were looking for.

The gardens were judged by Wilmslow Police and Fire Brigade, Contour Homes, Spath Lane Residents Association, Macclesfield Borough Council and Greenfingers Landscape Gardeners.

Jane Bradford, Assistant Housing Officer at Contour Homes said: Residents have really shown so much pride in maintaining their gardens and we have got so much pleasure from seeing the effort that they have made. It really does make the area a much brighter, more colourful place to live.
