Tonbridge Library opened its doors to the Y2 Crew and Russet Homes helped around 20 young people aged between 11 and 16 discover the cost of leaving home and other new skills during a day of
entertaining workshops.
Y-2 Crew is a multi-agency scheme run throughout the summer holidays offering a host of exciting activities to young people living in East Malling, Snodland, Hadlow and Tonbridge. Russet Homes is
the largest provider of rented social housing within Tonbridge & Malling and helped fund the popular and well attended initiative.
Russet Homes Community Investment team, Marilyn Smith and Melanie McAdam, paired up with actor and dance/drama teacher Colette Redgrave to put on the workshop. The teenagers were encouraged to
role-play around the pros and cons of staying at home with parents and studying, or moving out of home and working. They were also asked to guess the cost of various things they may need to buy if
they left home from a pint of milk to a TV licence to help give them a real insight into the true cost of everyday living.
The workshop was voted a great success and will hopefully be rolled out to events in other areas within the borough so even more young people can take part.
Other workshops taught the youngsters the art of rapping, MCing and Manga Art.
