TODAY IN HOUSING

The National Online Recruitment portal set up to tackle;

  • The imbalance in the recruitment and retention of Black and Minority Ethnic(BME) staff in Housing Organisations
  • The under-representation of BME Staff at senior levels.

Launched by the Federation of Black Housing Organisations (FBHO) this Recruitment Gateway has reached it's 1 Year Anniversary.  During this time BME & Mainstream Housing Associations, large and small, with client groups specific and generic, located across England, Scotland or Wales have attempted to use the FBHO Recruitment pool.  Not only Housing Associations but also;

  • Local Authorities
  • Teacher Recruitment Agencies
  • Children Charities
  • Mental Health Charities
  • Training Agencies
  • Learning Institutes
  • Crime Reduction Agenices
  • Church Community Organisations

Are using this National Online Recruitment portal in order to implement Race Equality thoroughout their services.

Another way of increasing representation has been through development work that has created employment and business opportunities for BME businesses.  Invitations for Tender targeting BME Business currently and periodically appear on the Federation of Black Housing Organisations (FBHO) site.

In 1984 The Federation of Black Housing Organisation (FBHO) was launched to work with newly formed housing associations for people from black and minority ethnic communities into housing.

 Today the FBHO is still a radical and practical organisation that works with members and key partners to promote, support and develop Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) professionals in social housing, by providing quality services based on campaigning, research, and project development that influences a change in social housing policy.

The FBHO makes an important contribution in communicating with tenants tacking social issues, and empowering local residents to engage and discuss with key partners. Topics and issues such as homelessness, social alienation, racism. The FBHO with partners create opportunities for training, employment and neighbourhood renewal.
