A £500,000 windfall will upgrade the homes of hundreds of residents across east Birmingham, it was revealed today.

Accord Housing Group has agreed to donate the funds to Moseley & District Churches Housing Association.

Moseley & District has just joined the Accord Group as an independent partner and the investment will go into M&D’s Decent Homes programme.

The cash will be used to fund specific improvements such as the installation of central heating, insulation and the replacement of kitchens to improve the overall standard of M&D’s housing stock.

In addition, homes will see external painting and repair works this year.

M&D Chief Executive Dave Cusack said: “This is a significant investment by the Accord Group which will go a long way to improving the homes of many of our residents.

“By joining Accord we have not only secured the future of Moseley and District but have also ensured that the housing and services that we provide will continue to improve over the longer-term. This is the first step in that process.”

Accord Chief Executive Chris Handy said: “We are working closely with Moseley & District to look at how we can help improve things for residents and felt it was important to put in a significant investment quickly.

“Providing excellent housing for people and creating the kind of safe and friendly neighbourhoods where people want to live is at the heart of what we do. This money is a really important part of that.”

The Accord Group is made up of Accord Housing Association, Ashram Housing Association, bchs, Redditch Co-operative Homes and the Fry Housing Trust. It’s offices are based in Darlaston, Coventry, West Bromwich, Birmingham, and Redditch.

Moseley & District joined the Accord Group earlier this month. It will retain its own name, independent identity and staff will continue to work in local offices serving their community.
