Lutfur Ali has been appointed as the Assistant Chief Executive for Tower Hamlets Council in east London.

Lutfur will have responsibility for Policy, Performance and Delivery at the council and will take up the position on September 1 2008.

The teams Lutfur will oversee are Strategy and Performance, Communications, Scrutiny and Equalities and Democratic Services.

Speaking about the appointment, Martin Smith, Chief Executive, Tower Hamlets Council said: “Lutfur has a wealth of experience in policy and diversity roles which will be extremely valuable for Tower Hamlets.

"He also brings extensive knowledge of the public sector having held a number of significant roles including advising the Department of Health on its implementation of the government’s National Strategy for Equality and Diversity in the NHS.

“Tower Hamlets is a 4 star council and is a great place to work; challenging and inspiring in equal measures. I look forward to welcoming and working with Lutfur in his new position.”

Cllr Lutfur Rahman, Leader, Tower Hamlets Council said: "I'm delighted that we've appointed someone who has held senior and substantial roles in both the public and private sector. Lutfur's skills and experience will complement and broaden the talent in the council's management team."

Lutfur joins the council from the Waterhouse Consulting Group where he held the position of Senior Partner from November 2007.

Prior to this he was a Director of Tribal Resourcing responsible for leadership, development, delivery and co-ordination of group-wide initiatives, improving business performance and enabling commercial advantage through diversity.
 
Lutfur Ali replaces interim Assistant Chief Executive Michael Keating who will return to his substantive post as Head of Scrutiny and Equalities.
