Servites Family Intervention Project is celebrating a successful first year in its pilot. As the only programme running in London funded by the Housing Corporation, it has achieved some outstanding results, with an 86% reduction in anti social behaviour compared to before project intervention.

The scheme works with families who are at risk of homelessness or another form of legal action because of their anti social behaviour. It helps the family to bring back stability into their lives and reduces the negative impact that they are having on their community.

The project works on an outreach basis with families for a period of six to 18 months on a needs led basis. Each family signs up to a family behaviour contract and a support plan. Through a holistic assessment process that feeds into a Family Group Conference or multi-agency meeting, the family is involved in determining the support they receive. Families are allocated a key worker who is in frequent contact and monitors adherence to the behaviour contract, take up of the support and the compliance of services in delivering support.

So far we have prevented eviction in 100% families and achieved a 74% reduction in number of ASB complaints that involve family members.

The impact on the community is also being felt;

Before intervention a member of the community said I am sick of complaining but I have had to deal with the mood swings and drinking for three and a half years now to the point where we are thinking of selling up and moving just to get away from her.

Mid way through the intervention the same neighbour says shes been keeping herself out of trouble and this has made a massive improvement to living on the street - long may it continue.
