Creative young people designed more than 650 colourful flags and banners at the third Tunbridge Wells Mela. The flags were created on the Town & Country Housing Group stand and were inspired by multicultural symbols and images that were important to their families.
Street performer Vinny kept the crowds entertained in the sunshine with juggling and games.
While the children were being creative, Town & Country encouraged parents to complete a survey giving their views on their neighbourhood. The information gathered will be used to identify communities where more work for community cohesion is needed.
Around 8,000 people soaked up the multicultural flavour of the event, which was held in the centre of the town. There were plenty of different foods, drinks, gifts and performances of music and dance from around the world on offer.
One parent commented: Your company always puts on such excellent interactive and positive activities that have a real impact.
Head of Community Investment Jackie Sumner said: The event was bigger and better than last year and it was great that lots of our residents were able to experience the fantastic atmosphere as the town celebrated its increasing diversity with style.
The Mela was organised by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and North West Racial Equality Council with the support of Kent Police and Town & Country Housing.
