TODAY IN HOUSING

Residents of Birkdale, a Moat sheltered scheme in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, took full advantage of the summer sunshine on Wednesday 23 July. They held a garden party to commemorate and celebrate the life of Victor Hardy who lived at the scheme for nearly thirty years before he passed away in November 2007.

Local MP, Greg Clark and Mr Hardys family joined Moat staff and Birkdale residents. They listened to local entertainer and musician, Adrian Chapman and shared memories of Victor. Residents ensured that Victor was not forgotten with the renaming of the communal lounge as The Hardy Lounge and the purchase of a garden bench in partnership with the Hardy family and Moat.

Victors life spanned nine decades and he served his country during the Second World War. He loved Charlton Athletic football club and joining in with the community activities at Birkdale. Those who celebrated his memory recalled a thoughtful and helpful man who cared deeply about Birkdale and its residents.

The MP for Tunbridge Wells, Greg Clark, says: What a fantastic sense of community there is at Birkdale! It is a beautiful and lasting gesture to dedicate the bench and communal lounge to the memory of Vic Hardy.
Mr Hardys son also thanked residents for commemorating his fathers life in such a lovely way.
