A Leyland based company is celebrating winning a prestigious award at the Northern Regional Finals of the National Housing Federation's (NHF) annual Neighbourhood awards.
The entry by New Progress Housing Association, part of Progress Housing Group, based on King Street, Leyland, will now be entered automatically into the final stages of the NHF's annual achievement awards.
New Progress Housing Association won the 'What We Are Proud Of' award for its Foundations/Inn2 scheme for homeless people in Preston.
The 'What We Are Proud Of' award is given to the housing association that has made a significant impact on its local community throughout the last two years. The prestige of winning this award is highlighted by the uniqueness of it, with the winner being chosen by board members and residents.
Foundations is a purpose-built housing scheme in Preston City Centre for young people and adults exeriencing homelessness. Foundations is for adults aged 18 or over whilst Inn2 is for young adults aged 16-18.
The Foundation/Inn2 scheme offers much more than just housing; it focuses on the welfare of its residents as well as providing accommodation to a very high standard. Before being allowed to take part in the scheme, residents agree to an individual support plan which they must adhere to.
As part of the scheme, New Progress ensures that all residents are given support with most aspects of their life in order to get back on their feet sooner. This support includes help with managing finances and benefit claims, support with domestic and life skills, help in finding employment or persuing further education and help with preparation for permenant housing.
New Progress Housing Association Managing Director, Bernie Keenan, said: "This is a tremendous achievement by the staff and residents at the scheme.
"It is a much deserved testament to the creativity and professionalism of New Progress staff and shows very clearly how we can make a positive difference to people's lives."
The overall winner of this award will be announced at the NHF's annual conference in Birmingham on Thursday September 18.
