Papworth Trusts Foundations for Living project has been awarded a commendation at the Best Practice in Equalities Conference and Award 2008 on Monday 23 June. The award was presented to highlight the exceptional quality of the project. Fiona Tran and Ken Burn, Papworth Trust Tenants, collected the commendation on behalf of the Trust.

Foundations for Living project started in 2001 as a response to local need and national policy. Through consultation the Papworth Trust found that many disabled people were keen for an opportunity to live in an urban location with better access to shops, community facilities, volunteering and employment opportunities.

Yvonne Pinchen, Head of Personal Support, Papworth Trust said: Were delighted to be awarded this commendation and well continue develop good design practice and innovative schemes like Foundations for Living.

Barbara Follett, Minister for the East of England and Parliamentary Secretary for Equality, gave a keynote speech on priorities for the region. The conference addressed health and social care inequalities with awards presented to teams and individuals for their hard work and efforts to bring about positive changes. Over the last few years there has been a tremendous amount of good work to promote equality in health and social care across the Eastern region, in order to meet the needs of our diverse community.
