Staff from Beth Johnson Housing Association have been working with the children of St. Marks CofE Primary School in Shelton on a large mosaic for the Shelton Farm Estate in Stoke-on-Trent.

The project, initiated and run by Beth Johnson Housing Association, involves the whole school and follows on from a RESPECT week the children were involved with in January. The children are working with local artist Kirsty Ashall and came up with the ideas for the mosaic themselves which centres around the themes of respect and unity.

Zenab Hussain, Beth Johnson, tenancy services officer, said: In January the children took part in a RESPECT week where they looked at the word respect from many angles and I was impressed at some of the meanings they gave and the artwork they produced. From this week we looked at working with the children to produce a large mosaic on Shelton Farm, a Beth Johnson Housing Scheme, and the children were really enthusiastic. They have come up with some lovely designs and ideas.

Dave Davenport, Beth Johnson estate manager, has been working hard on the project with the children and said: The basis of the designs revolve around respect, inclusion and unity in the community as seen through the eyes of the children. They have come up with some brilliant designs and Im impressed by their enthusiasm. The mosaics are going to look really good around the estate.

Beth Johnson Housing Association contributed funds towards the project but also received donations of tiles, grout and tiling boards from A1-Murad, Rosa Ceramics, Impact Tiles and Topps Tiles.
