Jennie George, Axiom's Refugee Outreach Officer, has been nominated for a Peterborough ET "Women in the Community" achievement award.

Jennie who works tirelessly for the City's Refugees has been nominated by Debbie Wetherington, a social work placement student who has witnessed the excellent work that Jennie does in the community.

The judges from the Peterborough Evening Telegraph spent hours poring over the entries and had a tough time shortlisting the entries. To her complete surprise, Jennie was chosen as one of the three finalists.

The majority of refugees that Jennie deals with do not have any possessions other than the clothes they stand up in; she works relentlessly to ensure that they have the essentials they need to live such as blankets, food, gas and electricity.

One of Jennie's main aims is to dispel the myths surrounding asylum seekers and refugees; her efforts were also rewarded recently when she became Peterborough Mayor for the Day. Her colleagues say they cannot think of a better word to describe Jennie's work in the community other than OUTSTANDING.

Cham Simei, Supported Housing Manager, who works with Jennie said;

"I cannot think of a better person to represent the City as a women who is celebrated for her achievements in the Community."

"Jennie strives to give refugees and asylum seekers help and support with the simple things that we all take for granted, such as clothes, food and warmth".

"I wish Jennie all the luck in the world for this Friday's final at the Marriott Hotel; she would be a very worthy winner".
