Housing consortium Quantum is celebrating beating its house building targets for the second year running.

The consortium, which was set up in 2006 to develop affordable homes in the East Midlands, is set targets annually for building affordable homes by the Housing Corporation.

In 2007-08, the members:

  • Completed 819 homes - 101% performance against target
  • Took £14.427 million of Social Housing Grant - 105% performance against target
  • Start building 327 homes - 448% performance against target

Resident involvement is a high priority for Quantum and with several schemes, the people who live in Quantum’s homes have helped design the buildings and have a say in the way they work.

The consortium, which now includes Futures Housing Group and Wellingborough Homes, is keen to continue its strong performance for the coming financial year.

Jim Patman, Development Director at EMH, Quantum’s lead investment partner, said: “Quantum is delighted that we have beaten the house building targets set to us by the Housing Corporation for the second year running.

“It’s a difficult time for house builders but we are determined to play our part and help meet the challenge of providing more affordable housing in the East Midlands.”

Some of the schemes developed last year include The Embankment in Nottingham, a flagship affordable development launched by Derwent Living, Orient House in Kettering, which was a former textile factory, and six family homes, which were built on the site of a garage forecourt in Heanor.

Quantum consists of three developing members –East Midlands Housing (lead investment partner), Derwent Living and Futures Housing Group - together with four partner members - Advance Housing Association, Foundation HA, Rockingham Forest HA and Wellingborough Homes.

The consortium manages more than 30,000 homes across the Midlands and beyond and was launched to deliver affordable housing schemes, follow the principles of good development and share skills, knowledge and best practice.

Quantum is one of just 108 organisations across the country, which has been selected to deliver the Housing Corporation’s affordable housing programme.
