Mayflower's Wartime Road Shows A Hit

PEOPLE in and around Boston have been stepping back in time to revisit the war years, thanks to a special road show organised by Boston Mayflower.
The housing association hosted its daily Wartime Road Show events at its sheltered housing units so current tenants, and visitors, could experience what life was like during wartime.
At Boston's Fenside Manor an exhibition of wartime memorabilia was showcased by collector Ian Blackamore, food including hash and mash was served, costumes from the era were worn and songs from the 1940s were sung.
Another attraction included classic cars being showcased at the Evergreens in Butterwick - and over at Kirton's The Chestnuts and D'eyncourt, Wyberton's The Orchards, and Swineshead's Swinfields wartime experts Margaret and Sam Jessop talked on the era and displayed their range of wartime artefacts.
Mrs Jessop said: "Everyone seemed to really enjoy the events, they were excellent.
"People appeared very proud of the history, and many spoke to us about their own wartime memories and showed us photographs.
"We gave out information, and visitors really enjoyed examining the items we brought. We really loved the events."
Poetry and wartime facts were also on show at the venues, and raffles and quizzes took place - with proceeds going to the Butterfly Hospice Trust charity.
The events also enabled members of the public interested in moving into sheltered accommodation to see what Boston Mayflower has to offer.
Mayflower's New Initiatives Manager Alycia Glaves said: "The events were a success, and everyone who attended seemed to enjoy them.
"We invited people to submit their wartime memories, and we hope to take this information into local schools in the future.
"One woman told us how she had worked in a munitions factory in Leicester during the Second World War. There were many interesting tales to be told."
