Billy Taylor of Axiom's Supported Project in Eastfield Road, Peterborough took a walk on the wild side of life and dressed up as a woman to raise money for their local project.

The Eastfield Road Project in Peterborough is a 'home for life' for some of the cities most profound adults who require specialist support due to enduring mental health issues and difficulties.

Following a service improvement review, the residents asked for additional therapeutic activities. They decided that they would like to be more involved with the Project to help combat social inclusion and isolation, which is caused by their illness. Ideas were discussed and a new monthly games evening was born.

To get them started with new board and electronic games, residents asked if they could raise money through a sponsored walk around Ferry Meadows. Staff and volunteers thought it was an excellent idea.

Billy Taylor, Project Worker at Eastfield Road said:

"I was really keen to be involved and decided to dress up as a woman for the event. We spent time organising the day and sought sponsorship from colleagues, family and friends."

"However, what I didn't realise was that it was half term week and Ferry Meadows was full of families and children."

"Although it felt a little strange walking around in a dress and blond wig, I wasn't deterred by the little smiling faces of children covered in ice cream laughing at me. It all added to the fun and made the walk so much more enjoyable."

Emma Binns, Project Worker added "We are all really pleased to see that we have raised around £450 for the residents new therapeutic games evenings. Money is still pouring in, so we won't know the exact amount for a few more days".

Eastfield Road Project would like to thank sincerely all those who sponsored the walk, especially the residents whose patients and persistence paid off.
