TODAY IN HOUSING

The annual International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP) Conference is to be held at the BT Convention Centre from 1 3 June. The IFHP conference will bring together 250 international experts to discuss and exchange best practice in planning and regeneration with particular emphasis on culture, housing, design and city centre-led regeneration.

The IFHP normally holds its conferences in capital cities but were persuaded to come to Liverpool because it is the European Capital of Culture for 2008. The citys reputation for regeneration will form the backdrop for the conference which is titled Cultural regeneration :the return of the city .

The IFHP is a long established organisation founded by the father of planning, Ebenezer Howard. Guest speakers at the conference come from far and wide including: Government Minister Iain Wright; Professor Sir Peter Hall, President of the Town and Country Planning Association; Professor Michael Parkinson from Liverpool John Moores University; Rod Holmes, project director with Grosvenor; and Ariella Masboungi, an architect and planner.

City Council leader Warren Bradley said:
This is fantastic for the city. It is yet another event that puts Liverpool on the world stage. Liverpool is a very vibrant and exciting place with many good examples of best practice in both the planning and housing fields.

Gideon Amos, CEO Town and Country Planning Association, added:
The TCPA is delighted to be working with the IFHP and Liverpool City Council to bring this important conference to the UKs Capital of Culture 2008, at a time when planning and housing is again high on the political agenda.
