North East Derbyshire District Council is now 'excellent' according to a new report released today by the independent Audit Commission.

The Council's comprehensive performance assessment (CPA) rating increased from its earlier 'weak' score following a recent inspection of its performance by the Commission. The corporate assessment looked at the Council's ambitions, its ability to improve its services and what it has achieved since the last assessment.

Audit Commission senior manager Andrew Blackburn said: "The Council has made significant progress since its last CPA inspection. The Council has revised its structures and invested heavily in customer service and access. It delivers improving services, both directly, and in partnership.

"This is recognised by local residents and reflected in good satisfaction levels. There is a strong focus on joint working with other councils, on partnership working and on delivering value for money."

Strengths include:
. Good and improving resident satisfaction levels with services
. Improving services
. Clear priorities for improvement based on good understanding of residents' needs
. Strong leadership focused on increasing Council capacity, delivering priorities and service improvement
. Effective partnership working

Areas for improvement include:
. Developing performance measures to support priorities for more complex areas of partnership working
. Developing its arrangements for consulting with all sections of the community

Following today's report North East Derbyshire District Council will plan what it needs to do to further improve its services to meet the changing needs of its residents.
