TODAY IN HOUSING

This month sees the official celebration of European Neighbours’ Day (27th May) and to mark the occasion, local housing provider South Anglia Housing is inviting all residents from Vange to a community get-together at Vange North Community Centre on Tuesday 28th.

South Anglia Housing will be taking over the community centre between midday and 7pm on 28th May to meet residents face-to-face, give people the chance to meet up with neighbours, and chat to the people who work in their community. And it’s all in the name of Neighbours’ Day!

Local partners will also be attending include Essex Savers, The Adult Community College and Essex Police. There will be activities for children too.

Neighbours’ Day aims to bring local people together, help residents get to know each other better and also meet other people who work and live in their area. It’s all part of the wider European Neighbours’ Day celebration which aims to promote social cohesion and neighbourliness; making local neighbourhoods a friendlier place. The day was originally created in Paris in 1999. Last year, it was celebrated by 7 million people from 725 cities, across 28 countries in Europe.

Also in recognition of Neighbours’ Day, South Anglia Housing is asking local community groups in Vange to bid for a one-off £200 community grant. Any local community group, such as a sport teams, parent and toddler club or youth group can bid for the money. All they have to do is write in to South Anglia Housing by 25th of May explaining why their club deserves the money. The clubs must be based in Basildon.

Caroline Kaldani, acting head of community development for South Anglia Housing says; “We are delighted to be supporting Neighbours’ Day, to help bring local people together. Our community day on the 28th May will provide the ideal opportunity to meet up with neighbours and find out about lots of services that operate in the area. We’re also encouraging local residents to hold their own events to get people interacting in their neighbourhoods to create a real sense of community.”

If you want to attend South Anglia’s community day, simply go along to Vange North Community Centre on 28th May anytime between midday and 7pm – all welcome!

If you run a club or community project in Basildon, and would like to bid for the £200 grant, simply write to Caroline Kaldani, acting head of community development, South Anglia Housing, Blackwater House, High Street, Braintree, Essex
CM7 1LB by 25th of May .
