Nearly 50 one and two bedroom apartments have gone on sale at the Stratford Eye development through Tower Homes’ part buy, part rent scheme, available to key workers and local residents.

The Stratford Eye development overlooks the Olympic site so to celebrate the occasion and to continue their work with local residents, L&Q and Tower Homes invited prospective buyers and local residents to take part in a ‘Test your talent with Tessa’ event on the roof terrace of the development with former Olympic athlete Tessa Sanderson and the Newham Sports Academy.

Local young people were invited to try out for sports such as fencing and judo with elite coaches from the Academy.

The elite athletes and coaches from the Academy then took a tour of the Stratford Eye tower to look at the 2012 Olympic site where they will hope to compete.

This was followed by a presentation ceremony where L&Q/Tower confirmed their sponsorship of one of the Academy’s elite athletes for one year continuing their commitment to developing communities in London.

David Montague, Chief Executive of L&Q presented the cheque to Tessa Sanderson and said: “With the Olympics coming in 2012, Stratford will soon become a global destination. The whole world will be focusing on Stratford over the coming years and property prices in the area are likely to rise."

L&Q is working with Newham Council to address this by building affordable, yet high quality homes.

We are creating a mixed community which will reflect Newham’s vibrant diversity.

L&Q hopes these new affordable homes will mean people who grew up in Stratford can remain there and enjoy a ringside seat to the area’s renaissance.”

Steve Nunn, Managing Director of Tower Homes, added: “The Stratford Eye will help to create a balanced and sustainable new community with the provision of a range of homes for outright sale, low cost home ownership and social rent.

"We are delighted to mark the launch of this important scheme with this event and are proud to be sponsoring a young elite athlete and help them towards achieving their dreams and aspirations.”

Tessa Sanderson, CBE was very pleased with how the day went. She said: “I am so excited to have L&Q and Tower Homes become "Friends of the Academy" helping to support our community youngsters to better themselves through sport and to try to become possible champions of the future, by working with associations such as this we can really make a difference to local communities.”
