Housing 21 and Elior UK have been appointed by Axiom Housing Association to deliver services to their exciting new extra care scheme in Peterborough.

Under the terms of the contract, Housing 21 will provide around 25,000 hours of care per annum at The Pavilions, which is due to open in July. Avenance, Elior UK’s operating company in the healthcare sector, will provide food service expertise through the on-site restaurant seven days a week, 52 weeks a year.

The Pavilions, part of a seven acre development, is a 40 apartment scheme offering a mix of one and two bedroom apartments, giving a totally independent lifestyle to people over the age of 60 who require extra care. Five of these will be sold on a shared ownership basis and six have been designed to meet the needs of people with dementia.

On site communal facilities include a large residents’ lounge, restaurant, mini-shop, laundry, hair salon, multi-function craft room, beverage bar, library area, secure buggy store and wing lounges, one of which has a large flat screen television.

Commenting on Housing 21’s successful bid, Mary Bryce, head of extra care said: “This is very exciting news for Housing 21 and we are pleased to be working in partnership with Axiom Housing Association, Elior UK and Peterborough Primary Care Trust.

“We are keen to develop our care workforce in Peterborough to enable them to undertake low level healthcare needs. The partnership at The Pavilions will enable us to look at new ways of working towards a new model of health and social care.”

Avenance’s operations director, John Bowler, added: “This is great news for us, as it builds upon the success that we have demonstrated at the nearby extra care site, Friary Court, which is a similar size. Combined catering turnover at these sites will exceed £150k pa.”

Housing 21 is a major provider of specialist care and support services to a wide range of people with differing support needs. These services are very individual and are offered in specific locations in partnership with different local authorities.
