Accord Housing Association is celebrating today after raising over £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Kind-hearted staff and residents clubbed together to raise a grand total of £6114.34 for the charity which provides vital support for people affected by cancer.
The year-long charity appeal kicked off last April after staff at Birmingham and Black Country-based Accord voted to back Macmillan Cancer Support as the Association’s charity of 2007. Accord
has main offices in West Bromwich, Walsall and Birmingham.
Hundreds of sponsored green balloons were launched into the skies above Accord’s Darlaston office on April 30, 2007 to get the appeal underway.
Since then staff and residents have been involved in a host of fund-raising feats, from coffee mornings to running the New York marathon.
Elaine Morris, Accord’s Organisational Development Manager, said: “We are so pleased to have raised such a tremendous amount of money for Macmillan.
“Staff and residents worked really hard to come up with their own fundraising events as well as take part in organised ones.
“Macmillan is a charity that is close to our hearts as it works locally in the communities that we serve.
“We were extremely happy that we could support this charity, which also helps some of our customers,” she added.
Cheryl Bradburne, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support Black Country, added: “We are so grateful for the support of Accord housing, employees and residents who took part in the
fantastic fundraising and helped to achieve this wonderful amount.
“All money raised will help Macmillan to provide more cancer services for local people. I would personally like to thank everyone for their help and support.”
Over 500 members of staff were asked to nominate their preferred charity from a list of 80 UK charities to be the official Accord Charity of the year.
