Time running out for housing associations to enter Neighbourhood Awards

Housing associations have just one week left to enter the prestigious Neighbourhood Awards, the National Housing Federation's celebration of excellent community work.

Entries for the awards close on Monday May 19, at 5pm, and the winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Federation's annual conference in Birmingham, on September 18.

Trophies will be handed over to the winners by a yet-to-be confirmed celebrity.

The Federation has invited the nation's housing associations to demonstrate the difference they are making to their communities by entering the awards - which are now in their fifth year.

Eleven awards are up for grabs this year, in categories ranging from Greener Neighbourhoods to Local Engagement and Involvement.

Housing associations are also encouraged to nominate residents for the Best Neighbour award, which will go to the person who has made the biggest contribution to improving their neighbourhood.

Housing associations can submit their entries via the Neighbourhood Awards website at www.neighbourhoodawards.org.uk.

Their entries will then be judged online by housing association tenants from around the country, with final judging to be carried out by an expert panel.

David Orr, chief executive of the National Housing Federation, said: "With seven days to go, housing associations who have made their local community a better place to live still have the chance to enter this prestigious competition.

"We look forward to receiving a wide and diverse range of entries."

This year's categories are:

1. Peaceful and Better Neighbourhood Award

2. Best Neighbour Award

3. Local Engagement and Involvement Award

4. Communications Award

5. Partnership Award

6. Independent Living and Older People Award

7. Diversity and Race Award

8. Best Neighbourhood Design Award - The Liveability test

9. Greener Neighbourhoods Award

10. What We Are Proud Of Award

11. Overall Winner
