Trowbridge town council gave the thumbs to a community project sponsored by Sarsen Housing Association to help reduce anti-social behaviour in the town.

The Bluez ‘n’ Zuz project is run by the local neighbourhood policing team which organises monthly discos at the Trowbridge Snooker Club to give youngsters aged 12-16 somewhere safe to meet new friends and get to know their community police officers.

The town council presented Sarsen with a civic certificate at the recent Annual Town Gathering in recognition for the project’s impact on helping to curb nuisance behaviour in the town at night time.

Sarsen’s sponsorship money helps pay for set-up costs and prizes that are given away at the discos.

Annette Holdsworth, Sarsen’s community development advisor, said: “We’re always on the hunt for opportunities to provide more activities for youngsters to give them a sense of purpose or something new to try. The discos are safe and fun and free transport is provided their and back.”

Sarsen also sponsors Bluez ‘n’ Zuz discos in Devizes, Marlborough, and Tidworth. The next disco in Trowbridge is on 16 May from 7- 9pm.
