TODAY IN HOUSING

New Charter is delighted to welcome its newest customer – who signed for her first tenancy at the remarkable age of 100.

Jessie Tittensor owned her own home in Denton for over 30 years, after a lifetime running a newsagent’s in east Manchester. But she decided to give New Charter a try when she realised moving nearer to her family and friends was right for her. And although moving home is usually quoted as among the most stressful things in life, Jessie has moved in to Mossley’s Marsden Close sheltered housing – and loves it.

The great-grandma has a remarkably active lifestyle and still enjoys dancing (“strictly ballroom”) and holidaying in Spain. But after being shown around the apartment in Top Mossley, she had no hesitation that a move into sheltered housing would maintain her independence and open up new friendships.

“I’ve already met so many lovely people here” said Jessie, “and I felt at home almost immediately. The location is ideal for my family in Ashton and Greenfield, and so much easier for them to call in. You’re never too old to try something new!”

New Charter’s Director of Tenancy Services, Tony Powell said: “Jessie is rightly special because of her age, but we offer a warm welcome at each of our 22 sheltered housing schemes. All provide the security and safety of a community with the independence of self-contained apartments. And with an active social scene, we hope to provide Jessie with many more opportunities to waltz around dance floors.”
