Donations flooding in following Andy's marathon efforts
An ASRA Greater London Housing Association tenant, who took up running to help him recover from a football injury, is now collecting all his generous donations after successfully completing this
year’s London Marathon in just four hours and 24 minutes.
Andy Roscoe, who lives in Woolwich, south east London, has raised over £1300 for Cardiac Risk in the Young, which aims to help understand the causes of sudden cardiac death in young
people.
He became interested in the charity after a family friend tragically died suddenly from a heart problem at the age of 34.
Andy said: “The marathon was such an amazing experience. It was tough, but the crowds by the roadside kept me going by shouting constant encouragement.
“I can't even describe the feeling of crossing the finish line, it's the biggest achievement of my life and I wore my medal for days afterwards! Thank you to ASRA for its support and
cash donation to the charity.”
He added: “It gave me a great opportunity to help a very worthwhile cause and I’ve already applied for next year’s marathon.”
Thirty-year-old Andy lives in a stylish one-bed apartment at ASRA’s Fountain House development in Woolwich - a shared ownership scheme which is helping young professionals get a foot on the
property ladder.
He took up running last summer to aid his recovery from an injury sustained while playing for his local Sunday league team Fridays FC. He was joined by two team-mates in the London Marathon.
ASRA has boosted Andy’s fundraising effort with a £150 donation.
Julietta Kene of ASRA said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Andy. When we heard what he was doing we were naturally keen to help and were delighted to hear how well he did on the day for
his chosen charity.”
