Local school children from Queens Drive Infants School joined Stewart Jackson MP to paint the new residents lounge at The Pavilions.

The Pavilions is Axiom Housing Association's latest £5m Extra Care Facility which is being built in Alma Road, Millfield, Peterborough.

The brand new state of the art Extra Care Scheme was previously a sports ground owned by Perkins Engines and had been derelict for a number of years when it was purchased by Accent Nene in 2004.

The seven acre site will provide a state of the art Extra Care Housing Scheme, operated by Axiom Housing Association, comprising 40 flats - 35 for rent and five for shared ownership through New Build HomeBuy. As well as 79 new homes which are being developed by Accent Nene and will provide rented, shared ownership and outright sale properties.

A significant proportion of the site will remain as public open space, some of which will be landscaped while some will be designed as play areas.

Stewart Jackson MP said "The whole redevelopment site at Alma Road is exemplar, with a great mix of family housing as well as the extra care scheme, with good transport links into the City of Peterborough make the site a great location."

"SDC have done a great job of redeveloping the site without it affecting local people".

Geoff Sear, SDC Builders added

"We have completed six Extra Care Schemes in total; and three developments for Axiom one of which is the Extra Care Scheme at Friary Court in Burton Street."

"They are cutting edge buildings which give older people total independence within an extra care environment. We look forward to continuing our partnership further with Axiom".

The children were thanked by SDC and given store vouchers. Before the children left to go back to school, Annie (aged 7) said

"Thank you. I had a good time with my school friends and my teacher Miss Dilks. I'm covered in paint but have decided that I want to be a decorator when I grow up!"
