Residents from Axiom's Sheltered Scheme in Martin Court, Werrington celebrate the opening of the brand new Tesco Store in Staniland Way, Werrington Centre, Peterborough.

Emma Aque, Scheme Manager, went along to the new Stanliand Store in Werrington with a few residents from the Martin Court Scheme and were greeted with Champagne and a cheque for £500 to help celebrate the new store opening.

The generous £500 cheque was a gift from Tesco's to all the residents at Martin Court. Tesco is committed to supporting local communities and to underline their belief that Every Little Helps, they support projects and initiatives at store level which give practical benefits to children, education, people with disabilities and the elderly. The money is part of their Tesco Charity Trust initiative.

Emma said "Tesco's have been marvellous. Many of the residents here at Martin Court used to frequent the Rainbow Store which was closed a few months ago. Obviously this caused great concern to many, as there are no other local supermarkets in the area".

"Tesco listened to local concerns, and provided a free mini-bus to their store in Market Deeping. I would like to thank them personally for their generosity, this gesture really helped and enabled many of our residents to get their weekly groceries without too much upheaval".

Olive Crowson resident from Martin Court added "We had a lovely time at the opening. Tesco's have been very generous to us at Martin Court."

"The £500 donation has been greatly received; we have a social committee at Martin Court which will decide how best to spend the money with ideas and initiatives coming from all the residents".

"I for one, will be making use of the local store and would personally like to thank Mark Porter, the Tesco Store Manager, for his generosity".
