Attended by the Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor Marion Todd, Axiom's Foyer for Young People in Peterborough has hosted a New Year, New Beginnings party.

Backed by The Foyer Federation and Virgin Mobile, after a successful bid for funding by residents, the party was hosted by the Tait Close Foyer in Peterborough.

The Foyer provides accommodation with opportunity for young people and a community in which they can grow and thrive.

By combining a safe place to live with personal support, training and employment advice, they offer young people the chance to escape the 'no home, no job' cycle enabling them to develop new skills and confidence.

The event was held to help break down barriers between young people and the local community: virtual driving with beer goggles (courtesy of Drinksense), singing and other fun-filled activities helped forge links between young people and the community in which they live.

Foyer Manager, Phil Estell, said: "This party was to help forge better links between young people at The Foyer and their local community, as well as the wider Peterborough community."

"The Foyer is strategically placed to get involved with a number of initiatives; it needs to promote itself as a positive place for young people and a community resource to break down barriers and prejudices."

Mayor of Peterborough, Cllr Marion Todd, was treated to a song dedicated to her by one of the singers, after which she made a brief speech thanking Foyer staff for their hard work with young people in the city.
