A new housing development in St.Helens will give greater independence to people with physical and sensory disabilities.

Grant Close is the first specialist housing development of this kind and is a partnership between Strategic Property Solutions (SPS), Inclusion Housing and St.Helens Council’s Adult Social Care and Health Department.

SPS purchased the property from the Council, which had been the venue for residential respite services.
SPS is now converting the building into three individual high quality tenanted properties with the ability to support people 24/7.

The property will be managed by Inclusion Housing and Adult Social Care will retain nomination rights and commission support services tailored to customer needs.

Councillor Suzanne Knight, the Council’s Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “It is anticipated that Grant Close will act as the catalyst for further such high quality housing within the Borough catering for some of our most vulnerable members of the community.

“By offering support services it will provide people with a high standard of living and a greater degree of independence.”

Steve Cullen, Chief Executive of SPS, said: “It has been a pleasure working with St Helens Borough Council on this innovative development.

“Since the beginning of the project we have received great support from everyone involved including commissioners, the legal department, planning and service managers which all demonstrates what can be achieved through strong teamwork, effective partnership working and a joint focus.

“The real winners will of course be the service users and we look forward to them spending many happy years in their new homes.”

Grant Close is scheduled to open this April.
