A landmark development of affordable homes in Klondyke has been officially opened.

Allinsons Court, developed by the Adactus Housing Group in partnership with Bellway Homes and part of the Housing Market Renewal Initiative in Sefton, provides 52 modern apartments designed exclusively for local residents and is a key part of the regeneration work in the area.

The Allinsons Court development – formerly known as St Philip’s Place – was launched with a special event attended by local residents, regeneration officials, local councillors and MP for Bootle, Joe Benton.

Built on the site of the famous Secrets cabaret club and cinema, Allinsons Court is set in its own landscape gardens and comprises 40 modern apartments for rent and a further 12 apartments for sale through shared ownership.

Ground floor apartments, designed for older people, have been made easily accessible and have a range of adaptations such as low access showers.

Allinsons Court has been developed by Adactus - part of the BReathe+ Consortium – in partnership with Bellway Homes, NewHeartlands, Sefton Borough Council and the Housing Corporation with additional funding from Housing Market Renewal.

The development recently won the award for ‘Excellence in Design and Quality’ at the Strictly Regeneration Awards.  Judges at the awards - organised by Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder NewHeartlands to celebrate regeneration projects in Merseyside – branded the Allinsons Court a successful, sustainable landmark project for Sefton.

The development marks the beginning of the regeneration of the Hawthorne Road canal corridor in Sefton.

During its construction apprentices from south Sefton were recruited, providing training and employment opportunities for local people.  In addition, the use of local suppliers and subcontractors in construction delivered a direct boost to the local economy.

Adactus, the lead partner in the BReathe+ Consortium, works extensively in the Klondyke area, providing a range of neighbourhood services which tackle litter, crime and anti-social behaviour as well as helping to build and refurbish homes in the area.

Paul Lees, Group Chief Executive at Adactus Housing Group, said: “Allinsons Court is a key part of the extensive regeneration work taking place in the area.  We have worked closely with local residents to provide the kind of homes that the community want.

“Beyond bricks and mortar we are - through the Breathe+ Consortium - also working to transform the Klondyke neighbourhood by helping to make the streets cleaner and greener and safer.”

Councillor Ian Maher Sefton Council’s Cabinet member for Regeneration and NewHeartlands Board member said:  “We are delighted to see people move into this landmark development for Klondyke particularly because these are the type of homes that people in the local community wanted.

“We are now looking forward to working with our partners on the next stage of the Hawthorne Road corridor to produce the same standard of regeneration that this area badly needs.”

Paul Howard, Divisional Regeneration Manager of Bellway Homes, said:  “We are delighted to have been able to work with our partners to bring this landmark, award winning, development to fruition & especially pleased that all the new residents are local people. Our Site manager, Brian Spencer & his Team, which included local apprentices, worked tirelessly to bring the scheme in on time & on budget.”

The Government’s national regeneration agency, English Partnerships, supplemented HMRI funding through an early action programme of acquisitions, site clearance and remediation of the site.  Eliot Lewis-Ward, Area Director for English Partnerships said: “We are delighted with the exemplar nature of the design of Allinsons Court and also to have been involved in the transformation of the Hawthorne corridor by lending our support.”
