Lambeth Council's housing department has launched a new service for young people aged 16 and 17, and their families.

The Family Support Service - Conflict Resolution, will provide support and practical help in resolving conflict in the home.

The aim of the service is to encourage better communication between young people and their parents to stop arguments becoming a family crisis and prevent homelessness.

This free and confidential service is staffed by a team of Family Relations Officers.

The Family Support team can offer practical support for 16 to 17 year olds thinking of leaving home in a crisis situation because of family problems. The team can:

Improve communication Resolve arguments and conflict Calm tensions and avoid crisis Improve family relationships Prevent family breakdown.

Cllr John Kazantzis, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "We launched this service because we are determined to reduce the number of young people who end up in difficulties when they leave home. The Family Support Service offers a vital lifeline to families, providing invaluable mediation and support, to help parents-teens resolve difficulties or arguments and improve relationships. I would urge any family facing conflict, or any young person thinking of leaving home, to contact them."
