A Martlet Homes tenant has been praised for shopping a noisy and abusive neighbour who was often drunk and inviting homeless friends to the flat.

Seeking advice from landlord  Martlet Homes, the tenant was put in touch with the company's Anti Social Behaviour Co-ordinator, Larry Jackson for advice on what to do.

They agreed that an incident diary should be kept logging the times and type of incidents at the flat.

Together with statements made to the Police and to Martlet Homes, and a willingness to appear in court the disruptive neighbour was sentenced to two months' imprisonment and at a later hearing Martlet Homes was given possession of the property.

Mr Jackson said: "This tenant has been very brave in standing up to such anti social behaviour. His refusal to allow bad behaviour to dominate his life and others' in the block is a testament to him.

"Accurate record keeping and determination allowed the Police and Martlet Homes to remove this noisy neighbour. The block of flats is now a quiet, tranquil place to live.

"Martlet Homes takes a very tough stance against any form of anti social behaviour. We have agreed a multi agency approach which means we're working closely with Chichester District Council, Sussex Police and other landlords and agencies. The more people we have saying that anti social behaviour is not acceptable and acting upon it the better."

Customer and Community Services Director, Adrian Walshe, said "To further our work against anti social behaviour, Martlet Homes is pleased to sign up to the government's Respect campaign standard. By agreeing to this standard, Martlet Homes is making a public commitment to deliver good services to help stop anti social behaviour and establish a culture of respect. We will continue to work with our communities to create homes and neighbourhoods where people want to live."
