More from University of Leicester

Icelandic sculptor Gudrun Nielsen, MA FRBS, has created a maze in the University of Leicester Botanic Garden in Oadby, as part of ‘Heart, Head and Hands’, the ninth summer sculpture exhibition held by the University.

Not quite, perhaps, on the scale of Hampton Court’s maze, Nielsen’s creation has been designed uniquely for the Botanic Garden, its aim to ‘momentarily choreograph the viewer’s movements and experience.’

Gudrun Nielsen is a professional sculptor with a Master’s degree in Art in Architecture.   She has worked in England since 1989 and exhibits nationally and internationally.   In 1998 she won first prize in the International Greenham Common Sculpture Competition.

‘Heart, Head and Hands’ features 63 sculptures by 41 sculptors from as far afield as the US, Iceland, Germany and Italy, as well as works by local and regional sculptors.    The exhibition is well supported by the highly prestigious Royal British Society of Sculptors.

The exhibition is at the University of Leicester Botanic Garden, Glebe Road, Oadby until Sunday 19th September. The garden will be open free of charge, except for special open days (see the website www.le.ac.uk/botanicgarden for details).

Normal Botanic Garden opening times are 10am-4pm Monday-Friday all year (except for the Christmas-New Year period) and on Saturday and Sunday from the third weekend in March to the second weekend in November. The entrance to the Garden is in Glebe Road, Oadby.
