South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) has received an improvement in the rating of the quality of its commissioning services across the area.

The PCT received a ‘good’ rating for quality of commissioning compared to a ‘fair’ standard last year and follows on from its ‘good’ score for use of resources from the Healthcare Commission in its Annual Health Check announced last week.

Stuart Poynor, Chief Executive, South Staffordshire PCT said: “We are pleased to see an improvement in our quality rating, however, we are thoroughly aware that there is still a lot more to be done.

He continued: “We are committed to making and sustaining improvements to healthcare for public and patients in South Staffordshire and will ensure that the services on offer are fully accessible and safe and that individuals are treated with compassion and dignity and that their individual needs are addressed.”

The Annual Health Check is a challenging and comprehensive assessment of the NHS in England and scores NHS Trusts on many aspects of their performance against a broad range of core standards, including how well finances and other resources are managed.

The Health Check is just one source of assessment that is received during the year and concentrates on processes undertaken to assure the PCT Trust Board that patients’ safety and standards are rigorously enforced.

The results of the Annual Health Check comes just after South Staffordshire PCT was recognised as the best performing PCT in the West Midlands based on its financial performance based on a report by the Audit Commission.
