A new health centre has been officially opened in Burntwood.

Alex Fox MBE, Chairman of South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) officially opened the Burntwood Health and Wellbeing Centre, developed in partnership with NHSolutions, which has already been used by over 2,000 patients since it was opened at the end of March 2009.

Mr Fox said: “The opening of the centre has created a tremendous service in what was a very under doctored area of South Staffordshire. The PCT would like to thank all the people and organisations who have been involved in this project including NHSolutions and Extra Space who completed the development ahead of schedule.

“I would also like to thank our elected members, who were instrumental in engaging with the local community, ensuring that the facilities we are offering meet their needs.”

Located on land adjacent to Burntwood Leisure Centre, the centre is open 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year and offers bookable appointments and a walk-in service.

Anyone in the Burntwood area can register with the GP Practice located in the centre or they can remain registered with their own practice and walk in and wait for an appointment or telephone and pre book in the new centre.

Dr Omar Rahim, Medical Director, NHSolutions said: “We are passionate about what we do and believe in high quality medical treatment for patients.

“It is not just about the Health Centre, we also want to integrate with local residents and give added value by working with adults and children to prevent future health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and diabetes by working in schools and the community to educate and support.

The centre is part of the PCT strategy to improve local services for patients, not only for housing GPs Practices, but also PCT Provider Services staff and Social Care, Children and Lifelong Learning and voluntary organisations.

The centre will be a multi-purpose hub, providing the building blocks for a healthier and stronger local community through a focus on integrated health, well-being and fitness, all in one building providing an opportunity for statutory and voluntary organisations to provide health and wellbeing services for all age groups.

Paul Tierney, Sales Director, Extra Space who built the centre said: It is a pleasure to see the building fully functional and great to see a building develop from a drawing to complete structure.

Patients can call to pre-book an appointment on 01543 687440 or visit between 8am and 8pm, 365 days of the year.
