Bracknell, UK, 19 May 2008, European IT leader Fujitsu Siemens Computers and network and data centre specialist Stoneleigh Consultancy today announced they have delivered data centre solutions to replace and upgrade the aging client/server-based infrastructure at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, South East London.

Following a complete pre-project analysis, Stoneleigh managed a complete upgrade including Fujitsu Siemens Computers FibreCAT SX80 SAS and SATA storage, FibreCAT TX24 off-line tape storage, PRIMERGY RX300 back-up servers and PRIMERGY RX200 servers for print, MSCS Cluster and Domain Control duties. The solution features full redundancy and reduced power consumption.

Tracy Ross, senior project manager at QEH NHS Trust, outlines what has driven the project: “Our data centre was beginning to reach the limits of physical space, power consumption and heating issues. However the real catalyst has been a move over to an ‘on-call’ support service rather than a permanently staffed team. This necessitated the move to a system that could be managed remotely.

“This new arrangement has meant that we needed total resilience in our new set up and that the equipment is capable of running “lights out’ at the highest levels of automation without compromising on reliability.”

John Crowe, executive at Stoneleigh Consultancy explains: “The existing system at Queen Elizabeth Hospital was in need of updating as it was beginning to creak under increasing workloads. We will deliver a solution that not only handles this workload but does so in the most cost-effective, and energy-efficient manner possible.

“We have been an approved supplier to the hospital for quite some time and Fujitsu Siemens Computers hardware was the obvious choice. The data centre site has limited power available so Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ low levels of consumption are vital.”

In line with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ environmentally conscious position, Stoneleigh will also manage the disposal of legacy equipment and hardware.
